16/11/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced on Monday 16 November the allocation of €20 million to the ‘Programme d’Appui à la Réforme de la Police’ in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), which aims to increase public confidence in the security forces, support the rule of law and fight against impunity and corruption. This EU support comes from the European Development Fund (EDF) and brings the total EU support for police reform to €60 million. Special attention will be paid to gender issues, taking into account the importance of the recognition of equal rights between men and women and combatting sexual violence. The total envelope earmarked for the DRC under the 11th EDF was €670 million for the period 2014-2020. (AN)
