05/10/2020 (Agence Europe) – A public consultation is open until 30 October on a future European Commission initiative that will impose common food safety requirements for all snails intended for consumption on the EU market. The implementing regulation under preparation will amend EU legislation (amendment of the delegated regulation (EU) 2019/625) to impose the same requirements for imports of live or processed snails. Currently, snails for consumption are not subject to food safety requirements for import into the EU, with each Member State setting its own requirements. The Regulation will establish the list of non-Member States authorised to export to the EU, the list of exporting companies and will impose the obligation to accompany shipments with the health certificates required during official controls. Adoption of the regulation is scheduled for the first quarter of 2021. (AN)
