05/10/2020 (Agence Europe) – The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, denounced on Sunday 4 October the measures taken by the Belarusian authorities against the Polish and Lithuanian embassies in Minsk. In a statement, Mr Borrell called the authorities’ demand that the two Member States withdraw their ambassadors and to “considerably” reduce their diplomatic representations “unfounded and regrettable”, adding that it runs counter to the logic of dialogue and would only further isolate the authorities in Minsk. “Attempts by the Belarusian authorities to target certain EU Member States will not succeed in weakening the unity of the EU”, he warned. According to the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, quoted by TUT.by, the Polish embassy would be limited to 18 diplomats, compared to 50 currently, and the Lithuanian embassy would be limited to 14 instead of 25.
