05/10/2020 (Agence Europe) – Member states of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) have approved a regional intergovernmental mechanism to monitor progress on gender equality, the UfM announced on 5 October. This mechanism “will provide data for scientific-based policies and support the implementation of gender-related Sustainable Development Goals to ultimately tap into the full potential of women in the Euro-Mediterranean region”, according to the UfM. The mechanism includes 20 gender indicators in four priority areas: women’s access to leadership and decision-making, women’s economic participation, combating violence against women and girls and combating gender stereotypes. This mechanism will be presented during the UfM regional video conference ‘Women4Mediterranean’ from 16 to 20 November. See the explanatory info graphic: https://bit.ly/3nh1YvR. (CG)
