Brussels, 25/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – The Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) on Thursday 24 September welcomed the European Commission’s proposals in the ‘Pact on Migration and Asylum’ (see EUROPE 12566/1), notably the fact that they contain an important reference to regional and local authorities with regard to their role in the integration of migrants and refugees. For the regional organisation, “it is time to put in place a real reform that also takes into account the role of the regions” in all areas where they have formal competences to achieve EU and national objectives in the field of migration. During the migration crisis, local and regional authorities quickly organised themselves to share good practices, the organisation recalls. During the last migration crisis, several large cities and capitals had organised themselves to create a mutual aid network (see EUROPE 11720/7). (PH)
