25/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – The EU and Kazakhstan reaffirmed, on Friday 25 September, on the occasion of their 18th meeting of the Cooperation Committee, “their strong support for strengthening their relations”. According to the EEAS, during their meeting, the EU recalled that emergency measures taken in the framework of Covid-19 should not be used to limit the democratic space and the work of human rights defenders and journalists nor to censor freedom of expression and access to information. The implementation of the law on freedom of assembly adopted in May should respect the fundamental rights of Kazakhs, the EU warned. The Union also welcomed the efforts undertaken to improve the investment climate while encouraging the continued sustainable implementation of reforms related to the strengthening of private sector development and investment protection.
