25/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 25 September, Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi welcomed the adoption of a new strategy to combat war crimes by Bosnia and Herzegovina. “Twenty-five years after the end of the conflict, it is high time to fight impunity for war criminals. All perpetrators must serve for their crimes, all victims and their families deserve justice”, he said on Twitter. On 24 September, Bosnia and Herzegovina Council of Ministers adopted a revised strategy for the handling of war crimes cases, drafted in 2018. This strategy aims to address the country's large backlog of war crimes cases. There are still an estimated 1,500 of these cases that remain unresolved or untried. (CG)
