22/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – In a study published on Tuesday 22 September, the European Patent Office (EPO), in partnership with the International Energy Agency, notes that Europe lags behind Asia in patenting battery technologies. The study shows that Japan has a clear lead in the global race, with a 40.9% share of battery technology patents filed between 2000 and 2018, followed by South Korea with 17.4%, Europe (15.4%), the United States (14.5%) and China (6.9%). In Europe, Germany alone dominates and accounts for more than half of all patents on battery technology originating in Europe. A gap that remains to be filled if the EU is to become a world leader in the battery sector (see EUROPE 12547/10). For more information: https://bit.ly/3mHY8vg (PH)
