09/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – The EUCAP Sahel Niger mission has been officially extended until 30 September 2022, according to the legal acts published in the Official Journal of the EU on 8 September. Its current mandate was until September 30 of this year. The EU Council decision also modifies the tasks of the mission, which is now to strengthen the capacity of the Nigerien security forces in border management and the fight against irregular migration, in support of EU migration objectives. It should also facilitate national, regional and international coordination in the fight against terrorism, organised crime and irregular migration and border management. For the period from 1 October 2020 to 30 September 2022, a budget of €73.76 million has been allocated to the mission. (CG)
