09/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – The spokesman of the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, Barend Leyts, confirmed, on Wednesday 9 September, that a videoconference will be held on Monday 14 September between Chinese President Xi Jinping and EU Council President Charles Michel, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, whose country holds the Presidency of the EU Council. The German EU Council Presidency had originally planned to hold a physical summit in Leipzig on the same day with the leaders of the Member States, but this summit was postponed sine die due to the Covid-19 pandemic (see EUROPE 12499/7). According to an EU Council communiqué, the leaders will discuss bilateral relations, including trade and economic issues and climate change, as well as international topics, issues of concern and the Covid-19 pandemic.
