09/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – The President of the Eurogroup, Paschal Donohoe, said on Wednesday 9 September that the debate on the reintroduction of European fiscal rules, frozen in 2020 to allow Member States to commit the necessary expenditure to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, should be conducted “carefully”. “When the European economy has returned to growth, when we have emerged from this crisis, then we must carefully re-establish the fiscal buffers so we have the firepower and the capacity to meet future challenges”, he said in Vienna at the Finanz im Dialog conference. He will chair his first Eurogroup on Friday 11 September in Berlin. (MB)
