09/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – As a group of 139 MEPs and national MPs called on Member States to reform the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT) or to jointly exit it (see EUROPE 12555/13), the Chair of the European Parliament's Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety,Pascal Canfin (Renew Europe, France), announced on Twitter on Tuesday 8 September that he was working on a committee initiative on the subject. Aimed at promoting long-term international cooperation in the field of energy, this treaty, which entered into force in 1998, is currently under discussion among the 56 contracting parties with a view to modernising it.
