Videoconference meeting of Ministers responsible for Sport. – Exchange of views on the resumption of physical activities in a safe way for citizens and athletes (resumption of physical activity, training, sports competitions, presence of the public). – Impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the sports sector and possible support at European and national level to promote the resumption of the sector. – Cooperation between Member States, the EU and the sport movement to ensure recovery and build resilience to unforeseen developments.
  • Brussels. Council of the EU. Preparatory proceedings: PSC.
  • Brussels. European Parliament. Committee activities. – AGRI: Examination, with Budget Commissioner Johannes Hahn, of the impact of the new proposal for a multiannual financial framework on the ongoing negotiations on the Common Agricultural Policy. *Votes: +No objections to delegated acts on: – the derogation from the delegated Commission Regulation as regards the fruit and vegetable sector and from the delegated Regulation (EU) 2016/1149 as regards the wine sector, due to the Covid-19 pandemic; – the delegated Commission Regulation on temporary exceptional measures derogating from certain provisions of Regulation (EU) No 1308/2013 to remedy the market disturbances in the fruit and vegetables and wine sectors caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the measures put in place in this respect.

Videoconference meeting of Justice Ministers. – Discussion and policy directions on the Assignment of Claims Regulation (exclusion of retroactive application of the Regulation, rules on priority conflicts involving novation, respect for the principle of universality). – Exchange of views and guidelines on the extradition of EU citizens to non-Member States. – Information to the Commission and EU Agencies on the impact of the pandemic in the field of justice. – Any other business: Progress on pending legislative proposals; Presidency briefing on the EU-US ministerial videoconference on Justice and Home Affairs; presentation of the work programme of the incoming German Council Presidency; presentation by the Commission of the state of play on the establishment of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office and the international negotiations on electronic evidence.

  • Luxembourg. * Court of Justice of the European Union. #Judgments: C-828/18 (Trendsetteuse – Can an independent intermediary, acting as an agent, who cannot change the principal’s rates and contractual conditions of sale and cannot negotiate contracts be classified as a commercial agent?) #Conclusions: C-591/16 P (Lundbeck v Commission – Application for annulment of the judgment of the Court of First Instance confirming the fine of almost €94 million imposed on Lundbeck for the cartel aimed at delaying the marketing of generic citalopram antidepressant medications).

Friday 5 June

Videoconference meeting of Home Affairs Ministers. – Discussion on a coordinated and non-discriminatory lifting of restrictions on the free movement of European citizens between Member States and the criteria and measures to be applied regarding the entry of nationals of non-Member States following the improvement of health conditions and the gradual lifting of restrictions. – Any other business: Progress on current legislative proposals and report on the EU-US Justice and Home Affairs Ministerial videoconference; presentation of the work programme of the incoming German EU Council Presidency; state of implementation of the interoperability regulations.
  • Brussels. Council of the EU. Videoconference meeting of Telecommunications Ministers. At the time of going to press, the items on the Ministers’ agenda had not reached us.
