29/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – Euro area annual inflation is expected to be 0.1% in May 2020, down from 0.3% in April, according to a flash estimate from the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) issued on Friday 29 May. Of the eighteen euro area countries for which data are available, inflation went into negative territory in eleven of them, with the biggest falls in Estonia (-1.8%) and Luxembourg (-1.6%). It was highest in Slovakia (2.0%) and the Netherlands (1.0%). It also amounted to 0.5% in Germany, 0.2% in France, -0.2% in Italy and -0.9% in Spain. Looking at the main components of euro area inflation, food, alcohol & tobacco is expected to have the highest annual rate (3.3%), followed by services (1.3% in April), non-energy industrial goods (0.2%) and energy (-12.0%).
