IEA predicts 20% drop in energy investments in 2020 due to Covid-19

29/05/2020 (Agence Europe)Due to Covid-19, investments in energy in 2020 are expected to fall by nearly $400 billion compared to 2019, an unprecedented drop of 20%, revealed a new report from the International Energy Agency (IEA) on Wednesday 27 May. According to the IEA, this fall is due to containment measures, but also to a sharp drop in revenues, particularly for oil. While the entire energy sector was affected, renewable energies were more resilient. "For 2020, we expected modest growth. Even though renewables have been more resilient during the crisis than other parts of the sector, we are seeing a huge fall in investment", Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson reacted in an online conference (see EUROPE 12496/12). Nevertheless, she admitted that the impact "goes much deeper than we had imagined". See the report: https://bit.ly/2ZO4i4b (DG)
