22/04/2020 (Agence Europe) – In a letter sent on Monday 20 April to the European institutions, 13 organisations representing the European energy industry, in particular the gas industry, called on the European Union “to make renewable and decarbonised gas a central pillar of the economic recovery plan for after the COVID-19 crisis”. “The best way to meet this challenge [posed by COVID-19] is to prioritise the Green Deal and place renewable and decarbonised gas technology development at the core of the recovery plan”, said James Watson, Eurogas Secretary General. Considering that gas will account for a significant share of Europe’s final energy consumption in a climate-neutral context in 2050, the signatories furthermore argue that such an approach would be good not only for the energy transition but also for European employment.
