EU acknowledges that waste incineration for energy purposes is harmful to climate, welcomes Zero Waste Europe

10/03/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 9 March, the NGO Zero Waste Europe welcomed the decision by the Technical Expert Group on the Taxonomy of Sustainable Finance to exclude energy recovery from incinerated waste from sustainable activities, as the NGO sees this as acknowledgement that waste recovery of this type is incompatible with greenhouse gas reduction and is a barrier to the circular economy. “We must phase out incineration as soon as possible to keep us below 1.5 degrees...
