Coronavirus, European Parliament will operate in slow motion for 3 weeks

02/03/2020 (Agence Europe)Faced with the spread of the coronavirus (see other news), the President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, announced on Monday 2 March that the internal workings of his institution would be placed under a special regime with immediate effect. Of course, there should be no change in the legislative activities, the committees will continue their work and the next plenary session should be held in Strasbourg, as planned. On the other hand, visits organised by MEPs, personal visits by MEPs but also by officials, visits by local assistants, events, seminars and hearings will be banned, the President announced. This situation may change as the situation evolves, he said. For Mr. Sassoli, the most important thing is to guarantee the legislative work of his institution.
