02/03/2020 (Agence Europe) – Work on the draft Regulation on the confidentiality of electronic communications is resuming under the Croatian Presidency of the EU Council. Zagreb circulated a first compromise proposal for discussion in a working group on 5 March. The text reintroduces the concept of legitimate interest as a legal basis for derogating from the principle of consent when processing the content of a communication. During the discussions in Parliament, this concept, which appears in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), was widely defended by the EPP group. See document: http://bit.ly/2VBnC2r (SPj)
