02/03/2020 (Agence Europe) – Young climate activist Greta Thunberg will most likely be invited to speak on Thursday 5 March at the EU ‘Environment’ Council, which will have a new debate on the European Green Deal (see EUROPE 12436/9). It is the wish of the President-in-Office of the EU Council, the Croatian Minister for the Environment and Energy, Tomislav Ćorić, to hear the young Swede and give her the floor at the very beginning of the meeting, before the exchange of views on the next steps towards EU climate neutrality by 2050. The day before, the European Commission will have presented its proposal for a "climate law" (see other news) and Greta Thunberg will have discussed it with MEPs at an extraordinary meeting of the European Parliament Environment Committee. The idea of the Croatian Presidency will be submitted to the Permanent Representatives of the Member States to the EU (Coreper) on Wednesday, 4 March. (AN)
