02/03/2020 (Agence Europe) – Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson and Kazuo Kodama, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the European Union, signed on Monday 2 March a Joint Declaration reaffirming their commitment to further EU-Japan collaboration on fusion energy, better known as ‘Broader Approach’. “Today, Euratom and Japan signed a Joint Declaration of the Broader Approach Agreement, which has been a very successful collaboration between the EU and Japan in the field of fusion research”, welcomed Ms Simson on Twitter. Concluded in November 2006, the Broader Approach aims to accelerate the development of fusion worldwide, while seeking to mitigate potential risks in the context of the ITER nuclear reactor project.
