12/02/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 11 February, the German Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament, Manfred Weber, confirmed that he wanted to co-sign a letter from the President of the institution, David Sassoli, calling for the establishment of a British-European Parliamentary Assembly. “The United Kingdom has become a non-Member State. Now we need to find platforms that allow us to work together, as we do with the rest of the world”, Mr Weber said. Interparliamentary groupings already exist, in particular with Africa, the Pacific and the Caribbean (ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly) and with Latin America (Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly). “We want to have a discussion forum, so we immediately agreed to a parliamentary assembly bringing together the EU and our colleagues in London”, Mr Weber said, adding that this would above all be a platform for discussion without a concrete legislative role, but it would “enable us to preserve our friendship".
