12/02/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament calls for a risk-based approach to artificial intelligence. Meeting in Strasbourg on Wednesday 12 February, MEPs adopted by a show of hands the resolution prepared by the Internal Market Committee on automated decision-making (see EUROPE 12410/14). This document, which calls in particular for consideration of additional prerogatives for market surveillance authorities with regard to the transparency and readability of algorithms, takes up the Parliament's expectations one week before the presentation of the Commission's vision on the subject. The amendments relating to sustainability introduced by the Greens/EFA group were rejected. The final version does not include the initial idea of an evaluation of the current regulatory framework for data protection. The S&D Group, which requested a separate vote on this issue, had not given us the reasons for this request at the time of going to press. (SPj)
