09/12/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 9 December, the EU's judicial cooperation agency, Eurojust, welcomed Ireland's participation in the Regulation establishing a new governance model to improve the agency's operational efficiency (see EUROPE 12044/3), which will apply from 12 December. “We are very pleased that the excellent cooperation with Ireland will continue after 12 December”, said Eurojust President, Ladislav Hamran, in a statement. Under Protocol No 21 on the position of Ireland and the United Kingdom with regard to the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice, the two countries are not bound by the Regulation. Ireland announced its decision to join ('opt-in') in June and the United Kingdom in March 2019. Ireland's participation was confirmed by the European Commission on 29 November. (MF)
