Agriculture Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski and Health and Food Safety Commissioner Stella Kyriakides will open the 2019 European Agricultural Outlook conference on Tuesday 10 December in Brussels.
They will give two speeches on agriculture for a ‘Green Deal’ and sustainability 'from farm to fork’ (see EUROPE 12374/8).
Organised by the European Commission, the conference on the EU’s agricultural outlook has become the main annual gathering of European stakeholders willing to engage in discussing the future of agriculture in Europe and the challenges ahead.
With a section devoted to agriculture and the ‘from farm to fork’ strategy, the European agricultural sector will be strongly affected by the ‘Green Deal’ that the Commission will present on 11 December (see EUROPE 12384/11).
On the first day of the conference, participants will discuss and present scientific developments and initiatives already in place to improve the economic, environmental and social sustainability of production, consumption and trade.
The second day will begin with a discussion on the impact of society’s growing demand on food prices. It will be followed by a debate on the prospects for EU agricultural markets: crops, biofuels, specialty crops, meat and dairy products.
