06/11/2019 (Agence Europe) – The High Level Group on artificial intelligence is continuing its work. During a hearing before the European Parliament’s Committee on Legal Affairs, one of its members indicated that a consultation was ongoing until 12 December on the evaluation list proposed by the group. “After that, we will revise this list from 16 December, the date of our next meeting”, Andrea Renda said. During an exchange of about an hour, he stressed the importance of the governance of artificial intelligence. “Will it be a committee, a new agency or something else? I don’t know. But this is necessary to continuously update our knowledge of artificial intelligence”, he said, confident that group members are talking internally about an “institutional mechanism” to avoid offending sensitivities. In 2017, Parliament called for the establishment of a “European Agency for Robotics and Artificial Intelligence” (see EUROPE 11727/9). (SPj)
