14/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – Germany is preparing to publish a catalogue of rules related to the deployment of 5G based on a series of technical criteria and does not de facto ban the Chinese equipment manufacturer Huawei, as Washington is demanding. According to Reuters, citing the daily newspaper Handelsblatt, the German authorities are asking network operators Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone and Telefonica Deutschland to identify and enforce enhanced security standards for critical network elements. Suppliers should be certified by the German cybersecurity authority, the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), as trustworthy. This is to provide clients with a legal remedy to exclude them and claim damages, if it is proven that equipment has been used for espionage or sabotage. This draft catalogue thus confirms the intermediate measures taken in the spring, at the time of the launch of its auctions (see EUROPE 12217/25). (SPj)
