14/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament's Committee on Budgets has adopted its position on the European Union's draft budget plan for 2020 by increasing commitment appropriations to 171 billion euros, 2.7 billion more than the European Commission’s initial proposal (see EUROPE 12339/9). The EU Council foresees a commitment appropriations level of 166.8 billion euros (see EUROPE 12293/6). In a written statement, Monika Hohlmeier (EPP, Germany) welcomed the fact that MEPs are supporting an increase in funding for the Horizon 2020 research programmes to combat climate change and for youth programmes (Erasmus+, DiscoverEU and Youth Guarantee).
