The European Parliament's Environment Committee wants to know how the Commission and the EU Council intend to contribute to the success of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 25) at the end of the year in Santiago, Chile.
To this end, two identical oral questions were approved, one for the Commission (61 votes in favour, 5 against, 3 abstentions) and the other for the EU Council (59 in favour, 4 against, 3 abstentions).
Each of the institutions will be invited to indicate what measures it intends to take to ensure that COP 25 makes significant progress towards: - successful finalization of the work on the Paris Agreement Work Programme and the Rulebook on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement; - increasing the ambition of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to bring all parties closer to the overall Paris target; - intensifying the mobilization of funds for climate finance towards achieving the joint goal of 100 billion dollars per year by 2020 as well as ensuring that annual financial flows are in line with the long-term ambition of the Paris Agreement.
Prepared by the EPP, Renew Europe, S&D, Greens/EFA, ECR and GUE/NGL groups, they will be asked at the second plenary session in October or at the end of November for debate. The European Parliament will vote on a resolution on its own position for COP 25. (Original version in French by Aminata Niang)
