06/09/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 6 September, Eurojust announced the dismantling of a Slovak organised criminal gang involved in cross-border human trafficking for the purposes of forced labour and money laundering. In 2015, the United Kingdom opened an investigation within Eurojust into this group, composed of five Slovak nationals. The victims were recruited in Slovakia and brought to the United Kingdom to work in Chinese restaurants and car washes under harsh working conditions. The criminals appropriated most of the wages promised to the victims, arbitrarily claiming reimbursement for transport, accommodation and food that were provided to the victims under dubious financial arrangements. The members of the group then transferred this illegally obtained income to Slovakia to conceal its origin. (MF)
