24/07/2019 (Agence Europe) – “Too little, too late” is the assessment that the NGO Our Fish made on Wednesday 24 July of the European Commission's ban on fishing cod in the Eastern Baltic (see EUROPE 12302/3) until the end of 2019. In particular, the organisation regrets the decision to exempt (from the ban) industrial fishing vessels catching cod by-catches in the Eastern Baltic. Our Fish would also have liked mandatory measures to monitor these vessels to encourage them to reduce their by-catches. (LC)
