24/07/2019 (Agence Europe) – MEP Clara Eugenia Aguilera García (S&D, Spain) has been appointed rapporteur on the proposal to review the system of controls on fisheries activities (see EUROPE 12198/12). This is a sensitive issue, which could not be resolved in the previous legislature because of the differences between Members on many points. Mrs Aguilera García wants to achieve a “solid position of the European Parliament” vis-à-vis the other EU institutions and will start all over again (drafting a new draft report, tabling amendments, etc.). The timetable has not yet been set. Mrs Aguilera García wishes to take the necessary time for the consultations and debates necessary to obtain a “quality position”. A hearing at Parliament will take place in October on controls. The EU Council has not yet taken a position (examination under way at technical level). (LC)
