Montreal. Council of the EU. EU/Canada Summit (and 18/07). – Meeting of Presidents Juncker (Commission) and Tusk (European Council) accompanied by Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Topics covered: – Bilateral relations: strengthening of relations and future cooperation between the two parties, support for the rules-based multilateral trading system around the World Trade Organization; status of implementation of CETA. – Climate and energy: support for the Paris Climate Agreement; actions to limit the impact of climate change and protect biodiversity; situation in the Arctic and oceans. – International and security issues: situation in the Crimea and Azov Sea; situation in Iran and Iranian nuclear agreement; crisis in Venezuela; situation in Syria; cooperation between the two sides in the face of migration flows, cyber threats and the terrorist threat. – Societal issues: reaffirmation of the parties' commitment to human rights and democracy; support for social inclusion, gender equality and inclusive growth; commitment to strengthen cooperation in science, technology and innovation, including artificial intelligence.

Meeting of G7 Finance Ministers (and 18/07). – Risks to the global economy and financial system: Enhancing competition between players, enhancing cybersecurity of the financial system, creating a regulatory framework for Libra-type crypto-assets. – Addressing emerging tax, digital and environmental challenges: combating tax optimisation and tax havens through an agreement on minimum corporate tax rules; common understanding of digital competition challenges and possible adaptations of the regulatory framework; increasing public and private funding for the ecological transition to a low-emission sustainable economy in line with the Paris Climate Agreement. – Reducing inequalities within and between countries: exchanges of good practices on equal opportunities, gender equality and wage transparency; increasing development efforts (better financing for Africa, greater financial inclusion of women through digital technology in Africa...).

Informal meeting of Justice and Home Affairs Ministers (and 19/07) *Home Affairs: – Future of the EU's Internal Security and Migration Policy. – Challenges related to the development of artificial intelligence. – Debate on a hypothetical hybrid threat scenario, with the aim of addressing the problem of hybrid threats from the perspective of internal security.
