12/07/2019 (Agence Europe) – Just like Huawei before it (see EUROPE 12207/7), the Chinese company ZTE inaugurated, on Wednesday 10 July, its new cybersecurity centre in the European quarter of Brussels. By installing cybersecurity centres in Brussels, the Chinese telecommunications companies appear to be trying to provide more transparency, according to Reuters. ZTE is not on the US blacklist, despite criticism that the company is trading with Iran. Last year the group was banned from exporting to the United States and had to pay a fine of $1 billion. With this cybersecurity centre, customers and regulators will be able to check the source code of network equipment and test cyberattacks. ZTE already has similar centres in Nanjing (China) and Rome (Italy). (SPj)
