20/06/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European Commissioner for Justice, Věra Jourová, opened on Thursday 20 June, the first meeting of the ad hoc Working Group on Antisemitism within the existing High-level Member States expert group on Racism and Xenophobia. The creation of the group was announced in January (see EUROPE 12177/21), following the declaration adopted by the EU Council in December (see EUROPE 12155/9) committing itself to intensify its fight against antisemitism and improve the security of Jewish communities in Europe. The first working session focused on the issue of the security of Jewish communities, the Commission said in a statement. The group, which brings together representatives of national authorities and representatives of Jewish communities, will assist Member States in the development and adoption by the end of 2020 of their national strategy to prevent and fight all forms of antisemitism.
