Member States give green light to text on exchange of electronic information in freight

On Friday 24 May, the Member States' ambassadors to the European Union (Committee of the Permanent Representatives - Coreper) supported the draft political agreement ('general approach') submitted by the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union on the exchange of electronic information in freight.

This text had been brought to the table by Bucharest on Tuesday 21 May, after national delegations had made some comments on the previous draft compromise (see EUROPE 12260/19, 12255/11). This draft general approach reflects the European Commission's proposal of May 2018 as part of the third ‘mobility’ package (see EUROPE 12022/11), in order to meet the needs of the sector. After the green light from Coreper, EU Transport Ministers will have to formally adopt this general approach at their meeting in Luxembourg on 6 June.

The ambassadors also supported the progress reports on the realisation of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T) (see EUROPE 12260/20), the cross-border lease of vehicles without drivers for the transport of goods (see EUROPE 12258/3), road infrastructure charges and rail passengers’ rights (see EUROPE 12258/4). Ministers will also formally adopt these progress reports in June, and will not reach any agreement. (Original version in French by Lucas Tripoteau)
