24/05/2019 (Agence Europe) – In Oslo, at the International conference on Ending Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in Humanitarian Crises, the European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, Christos Stylianides, confirmed on Friday 24 May the EU's commitment to support efforts to end gender-based violence. The conference aimed to mobilise a stronger commitment to prevent such violence and to protect people at risk. "Eradicating sexual and gender-based violence is more than a mandate. It is our moral obligation. The EU has made this common objective a priority," the Commissioner said on Friday on his Twitter account. According to the Commission, in 2017 and 2018, the EU allocated around €62 million in humanitarian aid to prevent and respond to gender-based violence in emergencies. (AN)
