16/05/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday, 15 May, in Paris, France and New Zealand launched the “Christchurch Call” 2 months after the attacks in New Zealand’s mosques that were broadcast live on Facebook. This call has brought together 20 or so countries and Internet giants such as Facebook and Google. The United States has indicated that it does not intend to join this call. Emmanuel Macron and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s objective is to call on online platforms to combat cyberhate and online radicalisation. A European draft regulation on the subject is currently being discussed and has been given a first reading in the European Parliament. Negotiations with the EU Council will be opened with the next European Parliament. The key measure is removing violent terrorist content within a maximum of one hour (see EUROPE 12231/8). (SP)
