16/05/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 16 May, the European Commission adopted rules on rail interoperability, rail noise and train accessibility for persons with reduced mobility. These measures complement the preparations for the 'technical pillar' of the Fourth Railway Package, adopted in 2016 (see EUROPE 11512/7). "Today, we are putting in place a critical pillar of our vision for rail transport, with our citizens at its heart […]", said Violeta Bulc, Commissioner for Transport Policy. "Member States must now act swiftly and implement the new rules to create a real interoperable rail network that will make rail more attractive, more reliable and competitive […]", she added. Member States have in principle until 16 June this year to transpose the technical pillar of the fourth railway package into their national legal systems. (LT)
