Brussels, 14/05/2019 (Agence Europe) – Although acknowledging that “elections are always unpredictable”, Digital Single Market Commissioner Andrus Ansip told a group of journalists on Tuesday 14 May that he will “most likely” be elected as a MEP following the European elections at the end of May. “It means I have to step down from this position and somebody else will continue as commissioner”, he added. However, the Estonian Commissioner recalled that the new Estonian government, associated with an extreme right-wing party, was formed without his liberal Reform Party of Estonia. “The new government wants to send to the Commission somebody as commissioner representing the government”, he concluded, deploring the results of the recent national parliamentary elections.
