EU Council postpones its decision on deployment of cooperative intelligent transport systems

13/05/2019 (Agence Europe)Not surprisingly (see EUROPE 12248/6), the Council of the European Union decided, without discussion, on Monday 13 May, to extend by two months its decision-making deadline on the delegated regulation on the deployment of cooperative intelligent transport systems (C-ITS). While the Commission had presented its delegated act on this subject in March (see EUROPE 12213/37), several legal questions surround it. The extension of the decision-making deadline should allow the EU Council's legal services to give an opinion, which should be delivered by the beginning of June at the latest. A meeting of the EU Council's working party on intermodal questions and networks on 14 June will allow national experts to discuss it before a decision is taken. For this act to be objected to, a majority of 21 Member States representing 65% of the population is required. The European Parliament gave its green light to the text on 17 April (see EUROPE 12238/6)(LT)
