13/05/2019 (Agence Europe) – The rapporteur for the Committee of the Regions' (CoR) opinion on the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy 2021-2027, Guillaume Cros (PSE, France), stressed on Monday 13 May, at a conference organised by the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council, the need to make the sector more sustainable and attractive to young people. For the CoR, direct payments should be distributed more fairly between farms, regions and Member States. Above all, the rapporteur insisted on: - the introduction of a compulsory “young farmers' premium”; - a minimum of 30% of first pillar funds for the development of sustainable agriculture; - a 30% reduction in pesticides and greenhouse gases; - finally, the doubling of the surface area devoted to organic farming.
