Immigration, climate and security are at heart of European citizens' concerns, according to a survey

13/05/2019 (Agence Europe)Immigration from outside Europe (35%), the fight against climate change (29%), security and peace (23%) and economic disparities between states (18%) are, in that order, the main concerns of citizens, according to a YouGov survey conducted in eight Member States and published by the Leading European Newspaper Alliance LENA. Across the eight countries surveyed, the refugee crisis is seen as a bad thing for the European Union (40%) and the possibility of further hosting refugees from crisis regions is rejected by 46% of respondents. Nevertheless, 54% of those surveyed believe that it is the EU's responsibility to protect the Union's external borders, while only 13% believe that this competence should remain a national one. (Original version in French by Mathieu Bion)
