13/05/2019 (Agence Europe) – Didier Guillaume, French Minister of Agriculture, visiting Japan on the occasion of the G20 meeting on agriculture (see other news), called on Sunday 12 May in Tokyo for the acceleration of the implementation of the Economic Partnership Agreement between the EU and Japan (see EUROPE 12184/3). This agreement gives pride of place to the European agri-food sector, the French industry in particular. While Mr Guillaume welcomed the increase in wine exports from France to Japan, up 20% compared to the previous year since its entry into force on 1 February, he nevertheless complained of “slowness” in opening up to French cheeses and beef. According to the Minister, quoted by several media outlets, these are mainly due to problems in the distribution of tariff quotas in Japan. (HD)
