11/04/2019 (Agence Europe) – As Sudanese President Omar al Bashir's withdrawal from power was announced under popular pressure, the EU indicated on Thursday 11 April that it was closely monitoring the situation and reiterated its call for an inclusive political process that would meet the legitimate expectations of the Sudanese people. When asked at noon about the EU's readiness to support a civil transition, at a time when the President's departure seemed imminent, the EEAS spokesperson said, “We call for a peaceful, credible, legitimate and inclusive political process that takes into account the wishes of the Sudanese population and the need for political and economic reforms” (see EUROPE 12231/29). The EU is in contact with Member States and partners to monitor the situation and the Commission delegation on the ground is continuing its work, she said. (AN)
