EU expects immediate reforms from Khartoum to respond to demonstrators' desire for change

08/04/2019 (Agence Europe)In response to the protest movement against Sudanese President Al Bashir, which began on 19 December in Sudan and has grown in recent days with thousands of peaceful demonstrators, the EU called on Sunday 7 April for the immediate launch of a credible process to meet the expectations of the Sudanese people. “The EU expects that the call for change will prompt a commitment to a peaceful, credible, legitimate and inclusive process that will allow Sudan to carry out essential reforms. These should guarantee economic security and political representation while providing assurances for the stability of Sudan's neighbours”, said the spokesperson for the European External Action Service. To secure the confidence of Sudanese citizens and many of Sudan’s international partners, this process should begin now”, the spokesperson added. The EU urges Khartoum to release all political prisoners. (AN)
