Parliament wants to be formally heard by EU ministers on Article 7 procedure against Budapest

08/04/2019 (Agence Europe)The Chairman of the European Parliament's Civil Liberties Committee, the British MEP Claude Moraes (S&D) and the Dutch MEP who initiated the Article 7 procedure against Hungary, Judith Sargentini (Greens/EFA), said on Monday 8 April that they were unable to respond to the invitation of the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council to take part in an informal discussion ahead of the EU ministers' meeting in Luxembourg on 9 April (see EUROPE 12230/2). They will have an exchange of views on the Hungarian case. An informal meeting had already been held in January and had caused frustration for both MEPs. In a statement, they said that this invitation had arrived “at the last minute” and that they were now asking for the Parliament to be formally heard by the Council of the EU at a “General Affairs” meeting. (SP)
