08/04/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European Road Haulers Association (UETR) took note, in a communiqué on Friday 5 April, of the European Parliament's vote on the previous day on the social and market aspects of the first ‘mobility’ package (posting of drivers, driving time and rest periods, tachograph, cabotage and market access - see EUROPE 12229/1). "The outcome is obviously a compromise, but represents an acceptable balance between harmonisation and [market] liberalisation", writes the organisation, which did not adopt a Manichean tone. Thus, with regard to posting, the UETR sees the vote as a "step forward" in order to reduce the differences between drivers and considers that the text adopted on cabotage seems like a "pragmatic approach". The organisation also wants micro, small and medium-sized transport companies to be supported in the introduction of second-generation smart tachographs on vehicles. (LT)
