08/04/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) calls on the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to adopt a “bold” declaration on the occasion of its 100th anniversary conference in June, in a statement published on Monday 8 April. For trade unions, the Organisation must redouble its efforts to ensure decent work in a “in a global economy radically changed by free trade and deregulation, climate change and digitalisation”. The ETUC cites in particular the universal right to life-long learning, a universal guarantee of work (such as maximum working hours and collective representation) and investment in decent and sustainable work (including incentives for job creation, digital infrastructure and support for long-term investment). The ETUC publishes this statement on the eve of a high-level conference organised by the Commission on the Future of Work at which the ILO will be present. (PH)
