3/4/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced on Wednesday 3 April the addition of Cambodian palm sugar 'Skor Thnot Kampong Speu' to the Regulation on quality systems for agricultural products and foodstuffs. The Commission has registered the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) for this palm sugar made from the sap of the palm tree. The geographical area in which palm sap is harvested and processed includes three districts located in south-central Cambodia. This sugar was recognised in 2005 as the emblem of Cambodia. At present, 32 PGIs from non-Member States are registered in the EU's quality registers, which enjoy the same protection and added value as protected European products. (LC)
